Bar and Bat Mitzvah Cocktail Hour - Fun for the Teens and Adults

By the time you finish Bar and Bat Mitzvah planning, you might very well be looking forward to relaxing with a glass of wine during the adult’s cocktail hour. During the adult’s cocktail hour it is important to find an activity that will be fun and engaging for your child and his or her friends. Many parents planning Bar/Bat Mitzvahs have found that this is an ideal time to set-up structured games and events for the teens. After all, you want to enjoy that glass of wine while knowing everyone is occupied with activities and having a great time.

Some ideas for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs cocktail hour include games and activities that correspond to your child’s personal interests. Some great and innovative ideas include unique fun photos, bringing in caricature artists, or even holding a small carnival or casino hour.

The array of ideas for cocktail hour activities for your teen is pretty endless- feel free to use your imagination. Think about your teen’s hobbies, and try to figure out something that is a good match. For example, if your child enjoys mental types of games perhaps you could set up a session of trivia games with prizes for the winners. If your child enjoys sports, you can bring in a small set-up of a basketball game for the kids to play. Dancing marathons with prizes are always a great idea for kids who enjoy getting out on the dance floor.

Parents realize that the time that their child spends with his or her friends during the event will often be the most memorable. After all that hard work and preparation, your teen undoubtedly deserves some fun and relaxation as well!

Choosing The Right Entertainment For Your Simcha

The entertainment at your simcha will make or break your party. With that being said, is there anything more important?

If you're choosing between a band, or a DJ, for your Bar or Bat Mitzvah, it's important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each option. A band is great if you're looking for a truly live sound, however it lacks in that bands are limited in what songs they can play. A DJ for your Bar or Bat Mitzvah, on the other hand, has an endless collection of music. On top of that, most DJ troupes have interactive MCs and dancers to keep all of your guests on the dance floor the whole night. A DJ appeals much more to all guests, whereas a band appeals to the older crowd much more than a DJ.

If you're looking for a great DJ for your Bar or Bat Mitzvah in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia, check out Electric Entertainment. You can visit their website at www.thedjs.net.

Giving Good Gifts

As your child’s Simcha approaches, they’ll be going to a lot of their friends’ celebrations. You’ve probably been too busy wrapped up in your own Simcha that you haven’t had time to get a gift for the friends. It’s ok, don’t panic. Finding a good gift is relatively easy. Gifts from the child’s family tend to be more traditional; a kiddish cup, tallit, tallit clips, initial ring. But good gifts from outside the family can be just about anything; books, dvds, video games. Money is also a good option. But make sure that if your giving money, that you give in multiples of 18 (or chai).

Themes

Every party has a theme, but how do you decide on what it should be? Well this is probably the easiest part of the planning. You probably have known what the theme is for years without realizing it. Think about your child and their special quirks. What’s the one thing that stands out? Are they a dog lover, do they have one special talent, do they aspire to be an actor? If it’s not as simple as that… just ask your child what they want. You’d be surprised to see how well they’re envisioning the day too.

Casino Games

Having a few Casino games at your party can definitely add some fun for your guests. It can be a cool thing to do during cocktail hour and has endless possibilities. You could make stickers for the poker chips that say ‘Welcome to (Your Child’s) Casino’ and they would serve as an awesome and unique giveaway. On top of that you could make ‘funny money’ with your child’s picture in the middle with ‘In (Name) We Trust’ printed on it. The more money the kids win the better giveaways they could receive.
